چکیده

This paper presents a comparison of modern time and frequency domain coding of ElectroCardioGram (ECG) signals. A set of diierent subband decompositions are compared for coding purposes. These results are then compared with a time domain linear interpolation technique which is optimal with respect to reconstruction error given the number of retained samples. Comparing the optimized time domain solution to the subband coders, we observe better performance for the latter class of coders in terms the percentage root mean square diierence (PRD) performance measure. The observations referred to above is connrmed and complemented by visual inspection of the reconstructed signals.

Analysis ECG Data Compression Techniques - A Survey Approach

Electrocardiogram (ECG) plays a significant role in diagnosing most of the cardiac diseases. One cardiac cycle in an ECG signal consists of the P-QRS-T waves. Many types of ECG recordings generate a vast amount of data. ECG compression becomes mandatory to efficiently store and retrieve this data from medical database. Recently, numerous research and techniques have been developed for compressi...

A Novel Color Image Compression Method Using Eigenimages

Since the birth of multi–spectral imaging techniques, there has been a tendency to consider and process this new type of data as a set of parallel gray–scale images, instead of an ensemble of an n–D realization. Although, even now, some researchers make the same assumption, it is proved that using vector geometries leads to better results. In this paper, first a method is prop...

Determining the Proper compression Algorithm for Biomedical Signals and Design of an Optimum Graphic System to Display Them (TECHNICAL NOTES)

In this paper the need for employing a data reduction algorithm in using digital graphic systems to display biomedical signals is firstly addressed and then, some such algorithms are compared from different points of view (such as complexity, real time feasibility, etc.). Subsequently, it is concluded that Turning Point algorithm can be a suitable one for real time implementation on a microproc...

A Novel Approach in Testing the Accuracy of ECG Compression using Partial Percentage RMS Difference and Dynamic Time Warping

Compression of recorded ECG data has been a topic of interest since the introduction of computer storage and later Holter monitor applications of ECG recording technology. Compression is typically performed using an approximation algorithm belonging to one of three classes; direct data compression; transformation and parameter extraction. Some debate exists as to how the accuracy of each implem...

Lossless Compression of Ecg Signals

In this paper we study the compression techniques for electrocardiogram (ECG) signals based on Block Sorting Techniques. We introduce a new and faster block transformation than the Burrows and Wheeler Transformation (BWT), and later compare them for ECG data compression. We show that our algorithm yields better compression gain than the Burrows and Wheeler’s algorithm (BWA), Gzip and the Shorte...
